REMOVAL

1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

3UR-FE FUEL: FUEL SYSTEM: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION (2008 Sequoia)

2. DRAIN ENGINE OIL 3UR-FE LUBRICATION: OIL AND OIL FILTER: REPLACEMENT (2008 Sequoia)+

3. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the radiator 3UR-FE COOLING: RADIATOR: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia) .

4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY 3UR-FE COOLING: WATER PUMP: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

5. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY 3UR-FE COOLING: WATER PUMP: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

6. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE C

(a) Disconnect the inlet heater water hose from the No. 1 water by-pass pipe.

7. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE C

(a) Disconnect the outlet heater water hose from the water by-pass pipe.

8. SEPARATE ENGINE WIRE

9. SEPARATE NO. 2 ENGINE WIRE

10. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL WIRE (for 4WD)

11. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD

(a) Remove the intake manifold 3UR-FE INTAKE / EXHAUST: INTAKE MANIFOLD: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia) .

12. DISCONNECT NO. 3 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE 3UR-FE COOLING: THERMOSTAT: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

13. DISCONNECT NO. 2 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE 3UR-FE COOLING: THERMOSTAT: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

14. SEPARATE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 stud bolts, and disconnect the cooler compressor.

HINT:

It is not necessary to completely remove the compressor. With the hoses connected to the compressor, hang the compressor on the vehicle body with a rope.

15. SEPARATE NO. 2 FUEL TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the fuel tube.

16. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT

(a) Remove the oil filter element 3UR-FE LUBRICATION: OIL AND OIL FILTER: REPLACEMENT (2008 Sequoia) .

17. REMOVE OIL PRESSURE SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (w/o Trailer Towing System) 3UR-FE LUBRICATION: OIL PRESSURE SWITCH: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

18. REMOVE ENGINE OIL COOLER (w/ Trailer Towing System)

(a) Remove the engine oil cooler 3UR-FE LUBRICATION: ENGINE OIL COOLER: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia) .

19. REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET (w/o Trailer Towing System) 3UR-FE LUBRICATION: ENGINE OIL COOLER: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

20. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE 3UR-FE STARTING: STARTER: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

21. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the generator assembly 3UR-FE BATTERY / CHARGING: GENERATOR: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia) .

22. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS HOSE

(a) Remove the No. 1 water by-pass hose by disconnect the hose from the water inlet housing and front water by-pass joint.

23. SEPARATE AIR PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY 3UR-FE COOLING: THERMOSTAT: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

24. REMOVE WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Disconnect the 2 hoses.

(b) Remove the 2 bolts and water by-pass pipe.

25. SEPARATE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the No. 1 water by-pass pipe.

26. REMOVE FRONT WATER BY-PASS JOINT

(a) Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose from the water by-pass joint.

(b) Remove the 4 nuts, water by-pass joint and 2 gaskets.

27. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER 3UR-FE EMISSION CONTROL: AIR SWITCHING VALVE: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

28. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER 3UR-FE EMISSION CONTROL: AIR SWITCHING VALVE: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

29. REMOVE AIR PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the bolt, disconnect the 2 hoses, and remove the air pipe.

30. REMOVE INLET WATER HOUSING 3UR-FE COOLING: WATER PUMP: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

31. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY 3UR-FE COOLING: WATER PUMP: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

32. REMOVE NO. 1 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the bolt and idler pulley.

33. REMOVE FLUID COUPLING BRACKET

(a) Remove the 4 bolts and fluid coupling bracket.

34. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the standard bolt, 6 mm hexagon wrench bolt and belt tensioner.

35. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY 3UR-FE ENGINE CONTROL: IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUG: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

36. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Remove the 14 bolts, seal washer, cylinder head cover and gasket.

HINT:

Make sure that the removed parts are returned to the same places they were removed from.

(b) Remove the 5 O-rings from the camshaft bearing caps (No. 2, No. 3).

37. REMOVE RADIO SETTING CONDENSER (for Bank 2)



(a) Remove the bolt and noise filter.

38. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 14 bolts, seal washer, cylinder head cover and gasket.

HINT:

Make sure that the removed parts are returned to the same places they were removed from.

(b) Remove the 5 O-rings from the camshaft bearing caps (No. 1, No. 3).

39. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY 3UR-FE ENGINE MECHANICAL: FRONT CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL: REMOVAL (2008 Sequoia)+

40. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET

(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the bracket.

41. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN OR BELT COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 28 bolts and nut shown in the illustration.

(b) Remove the timing chain cover by prying between it and the cylinder head and cylinder block with a screwdriver as shown in the illustration.

NOTICE:

Be careful not to damage the cylinder head and cylinder block contact surfaces of the chain cover.

HINT:

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

(c) Remove the oil pump gasket from the cylinder block.

(d) Remove the O-ring from the oil pan.

42. REMOVE INLET WATER PIPE

(a) Remove the inlet water pipe.

(b) Remove the 2 O-rings from the inlet water pipe.
