REMOVAL
1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
2. DRAIN ENGINE OIL
3. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the radiator
.
4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY
5. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY
6. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE C
|
(a) Disconnect the inlet heater water hose from the No. 1 water by-pass pipe.
|
7. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE C
|
(a) Disconnect the outlet heater water hose from the water by-pass pipe.
|
8. SEPARATE ENGINE WIRE
9. SEPARATE NO. 2 ENGINE WIRE
10. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL WIRE (for 4WD)
11. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD
(a) Remove the intake manifold
.
12. DISCONNECT NO. 3 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE
13. DISCONNECT NO. 2 AIR INJECTION SYSTEM HOSE
14. SEPARATE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 stud bolts, and disconnect the cooler compressor.
HINT:
It is not necessary to completely remove the compressor. With the hoses connected to the compressor, hang the compressor on the vehicle body with a rope.

15. SEPARATE NO. 2 FUEL TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the fuel tube.
|
16. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT
(a) Remove the oil filter element
.
17. REMOVE OIL PRESSURE SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (w/o Trailer Towing System)
18. REMOVE ENGINE OIL COOLER (w/ Trailer Towing System)
(a) Remove the engine oil cooler
.
19. REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET (w/o Trailer Towing System)
20. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE
21. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the generator assembly
.
22. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS HOSE
|
(a) Remove the No. 1 water by-pass hose by disconnect the hose from the water inlet housing and front water by-pass joint.
|
23. SEPARATE AIR PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
24. REMOVE WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Disconnect the 2 hoses.
|
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and water by-pass pipe.
25. SEPARATE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the No. 1 water by-pass pipe.
26. REMOVE FRONT WATER BY-PASS JOINT
|
(a) Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose from the water by-pass joint.
|
(b) Remove the 4 nuts, water by-pass joint and 2 gaskets.
27. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER
28. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER
29. REMOVE AIR PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the bolt, disconnect the 2 hoses, and remove the air pipe.
|
30. REMOVE INLET WATER HOUSING
31. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY
32. REMOVE NO. 1 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the bolt and idler pulley.
|
33. REMOVE FLUID COUPLING BRACKET
|
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and fluid coupling bracket.
|
34. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the standard bolt, 6 mm hexagon wrench bolt and belt tensioner.
|
35. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY
36. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
|
(a) Remove the 14 bolts, seal washer, cylinder head cover and gasket.
HINT:
Make sure that the removed parts are returned to the same places they were removed from.
|
|
(b) Remove the 5 O-rings from the camshaft bearing caps (No. 2, No. 3).
|
37. REMOVE RADIO SETTING CONDENSER (for Bank 2)
(a) Remove the bolt and noise filter.
38. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the 14 bolts, seal washer, cylinder head cover and gasket.
HINT:
Make sure that the removed parts are returned to the same places they were removed from.

|
(b) Remove the 5 O-rings from the camshaft bearing caps (No. 1, No. 3).
|
39. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
40. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET
|
(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the bracket.
|
41. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN OR BELT COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
|
(a) Remove the 28 bolts and nut shown in the illustration.
|
|
(b) Remove the timing chain cover by prying between it and the cylinder head and cylinder block with a screwdriver as shown in the illustration.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the cylinder head and cylinder block contact surfaces of the chain cover.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
|
|
(c) Remove the oil pump gasket from the cylinder block.
|
|
(d) Remove the O-ring from the oil pan.
|
42. REMOVE INLET WATER PIPE
|
(a) Remove the inlet water pipe.
|
(b) Remove the 2 O-rings from the inlet water pipe.
|
